Majority of my work history had to do with the Airline Industry. I worked both as an airport ground staff and a flight attendant (international), so I am very particular about service when I travel. That's why it gives me a headache to travel with low-cost carriers. It's cheap, and you get what you pay for. Hence you can't really complain about the crappy service / or lack thereof that they give you.
Fortunately these days, airlines have lowered their costs and travel deals significantly to encourage competition and traveling among passengers.
If you look at magazines and tv stations these days, major airlines (Cathay Pacific/Qatar Airways just to name a few), have been reving up on the ad campaigns.
And while one would think that they would at least produce an ad with aplomb, I'm quite disappointed with the very cliche ads that Cathay and Qatar Airways have come up with.
I cannot find a clip or still photos of it, but Cathay Pacific's campaign is focusing on the cabin crew service, how personalized it is (passengers written testimonials such as "I love how you held my daughter's hand all the way" or something to that effect). And Qatar Airways just focused on it being a 5-star airline. (there are currently only 5 other airlines --6 in total--in the world that carry a 5 star rating)
But they are effective though, in reminding people that though the days of travel being a luxury are scarce, they are still around--with the right airline.
